What is TEFL ?

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

What is the difference between TEFL and TESOL ?

TESOL is Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It is more common in the US. It is also the name of the US organisation for English Language Teachers.  

What is a TEFL certificate ?

A TEFL certificate the qualification you gain on an initial training course for people with no teaching experience who want to teach English as a foreign language. It should give you a strong basis to start your career in English language teaching. The most recognised TEFL courses include both language teaching methodology and practical teaching.

Teachers who have done a recognised Tefl Certificate and have at least 2 years experience can then go on to do a Diploma (see below).  

What is CELTA ?

CELTA is the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. It is the most recognised and respected qualification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language around the world.

Where can I do a CELTA course ? 

Cambridge accredited CELTA training centres can be found in the UK, and main cities around the world. One of the biggest and most respected CELTA and Teacher Training centres is in Barcelona.

Can I do other TEFL courses ?

Trinity Cert TESOL 

Trinity College London also offers an initial teacher training course - Trinity Cert TESOL  which is also widely recognised around the world. Many universities and language schools in the UK are accredited to run courses to prepare the Trinity College certificate.

Some schools, mostly in the US, run TESOL courses offering initial training. 

Can I do an online TEFL course ?
