We have chosen a popular, well established school to provide our courses in the popular seaside destination of Torquay on the English Riviera. It is accredited by the British Council and English UK and provides year-round courses and activities to help you reach your goals and enjoy your time in the UK.

South Devon is one of the UK’s most beautiful areas with miles of clean beaches and breath-taking coastlines. Torquay, a safe, friendly seaside resort in the south west of England is the perfect destination for language learning courses all year round. Known as the jewel of the English Riviera, it is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with a mild climate and beautiful beaches. It offers a wide range of sports, leisure and cultural activities

The School

The adult school in Torquay is situated just minutes from the town centre and can accommodate up to 100 students. It offers comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms, a cafeteria serving hot lunches, and computer and self study facilities for students. Outside, there is a heated swimming pool with beautiful gardens with views across the town.

Social Programme

The school has an activities manager who arranges a varied programme of social activities to help you get to know other students, to learn about British culture and to give you opportunities to practice your English.

There is a weekly programme throughout the year with at least two evening activities and one full day excursion at the weekend. During the summer months there are extra optional activities.

Whatever time of year you choose to come, the student services staff are there to give practical advice and suggestions about what to do in your free time. They will also help in making hotel and transport reservations, booking theatre and concert tickets and can confirm your coach ticket and flight reservations at the end of your stay.

Afternoon and evening activities can include :

  • Sports - football, volleyball, swimming, bowling, sailing, windsurfing, golf, tennis, dry slope skiing, horse riding, rugby, abseiling etc.
  • Pub evenings / quizzes
  • Parties - music dancing and great food
  • Karaoke evenings
  • Salsa evenings

There are also longer excursions to places of interest such as :

  • Cathedral city of Exeter
  • Maritime city of Plymouth
  • Dartmoor National Park
  • Eden Project, award winning Biospheres, Cornwall
  • Dartmouth and its Naval Academy

Accommodation

Homestay

Most students stay with local host families. Families are carefully chosen and regularly checked to ensure a high standard of welcome for and compatibility with students whether young teenagers or professional men and women. Students are normally placed with families living from 10 to 30 minutes from the school.

Host families write to their student guests before they arrive and meet them at the bus or train station on arrival in Torquay. In case of any problems, the school’s student accommodation and welfare co-ordinator is always available to talk to students or their host families.
Usually, you are expected to arrive on the Sunday before your course begins and leave on the Saturday after the course finishes.

Standard Homestay provides:

  • Single room, breakfast, evening meal, all meals at weekends
  • Shared rooms on request
  • Room with study desk or table
  • No other student of the same mother tongue in the same family
  • Light laundry
  • All bed linen and towels
  • Usually within 10-30 minutes walking distance of the schools

Executive Homestay

Accommodation offers in addition to the features above:

  • Hosts carefully selected from a variety of business and professional backgrounds
  • Private bathroom or home with at least 2 bathrooms
  • Comfortable accommodation furnished to a high standard

Other accommodation in Torquay

Most of the students in our Torquay school stay with a host family to experience the new culture and practise the language, but the school can also offer accommodation in two comfortable residences.

St Michael’s Residence

St Michael's is located across the road from the school and a short walk from the town centre and harbour area.

Accommodation is in twin or double rooms with en-suite facilities.
There is a large kitchen available to the students and a dining room.
