Learn English in historic Salisbury.

Salisbury, with one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Britain, is a thriving market city with quaint old streets and a wide range of pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. It is close to the World Heritage site of Stonehenge, an ancient stone circle, as well as the New National Forest Park.

The city also has a good choice of arts and culture venues, individual shops and regular street markets and is surrounded by charming country towns and villages with plenty of opportunities for great walking and cycling. It is easily accessible with good road and rail links, and only 90 minutes from the centre of London.

The School

The school, previously known as the Salisbury School of English, was founded in 1979 and has remained extremely popular over the years with many students returning year after year. As well as providing the same high standards of teaching as all Crossroads’ partners, the school’s ‘motto’ is’ the complete satisfaction of their students with all aspects of their stay’.

There are 12 classrooms, a common room, a library and computer facilities in the main building. St Martin’s Annex, only a few minutes’ walk away, has a further seven spacious classrooms.

Social Programme

The school has an activities manager who arranges a varied programme of social activities to help you get to know other students, to learn about British culture and to give you opportunities to practice your English.

There is a weekly programme throughout the year with at least two evening activities and one full day excursion at the weekend. During the summer months there are extra optional activities.

Whatever time of year you choose to come, the student services staff are there to give practical advice and suggestions about what to do in your free time. They will also help in making hotel and transport reservations, booking theatre and concert tickets and can confirm your coach ticket and flight reservations at the end of your stay.

Afternoon and evening activities can include :

  • Sports – football, volleyball, swimming, bowling, golf, tennis, horse riding, rugby etc.
  • Pub evenings / quizzes
  • Parties - music dancing and great food
  • Karaoke evenings
  • Salsa evenings

Salisbury also has excursions to some of the UK’s most popular places of interest including :

  • University city of Oxford
  • Warwick castle
  • Longleat Safari Park
  • Stratford-Upon-Avon
  • Stonehenge
  • King Arthur's Glastonbury

Accommodation

Homestay

Most students stay with local host families. Families are carefully chosen and regularly checked to ensure a high standard of welcome for and compatibility with our students whether young teenagers or professional men and women. Students are normally placed with families living from 10 to 30 minutes from the school.

Host families write to their student guests before they arrive and meet them at the bus or train station on arrival in Salisbury. In case of any problems, the school’s student accommodation and welfare co-ordinator is always available to talk to students or their host families.

Usually, you are expected to arrive on the Sunday before your course begins and leave on the Saturday after the course finishes.

Standard Homestay provides :

  • Single room, breakfast, evening meal, all meals at weekends
