No visit to Spain would be complete without Mallorca, one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, and the most popular tourist destination in Europe.

Its reputation comes from its stunning variety of scenery, its sunny climate, the hospitality of the islanders, and its rich cultural heritage.

While many visitors come to island for the sun and the sand, there is much more to island than the beach.

Set in a beautiful natural bay, Palma has been the capital of Mallorca for over a thousand years. Modern Palma is a bustling city with a population of just over 300,000. The city has an extraordinarily beautiful gothic quarter and many fine monuments and squares. It is also a cosmopolitan city with a lively arts scene and nightlife to suit any taste.

The School

The school occupies all four floors of a large, elegant building in the very centre of the old city, on the Plaza de Cort, one of the city's oldest, busiest and most attractive squares.

It has 15 air-conditioned classrooms, as well as spacious recreational areas and a modern computer room. The third floor of the school is also an internet wireless hotspot, meaning that students may connect to the internet using their own laptop (notebook) computers if they wish.

Social Programme

For anyone wanting to sample the amazing nightlife, or just to laze about on the beach, Mallorca certainly is the place to be. But there is more to discover on the island than that, as the excursions that form part of the social programme will show you.

The social programme also  includes a "Welcome" cocktail, visits and trips to places of interest in and around Palma, DVDs in Spanish, concerts by local musicians, and parties with the school’s Spanish students who are learning English.

Typical Weekly Programme:

Week 1

  • Monday: Welcome cocktails
  • Tuesday: Guided tour of the Old Quarter and Cathedral
  • Thursday: Popular train ride to Soller
  • Friday: Evening visit to some 'tapas' bars or to a disco (food and drink not included!)

Week 2

  • Tuesday: Castillo de Bellver
  • Wednesday: Visit to Santa Maria market
  • Thursday: Exchange evening with students from IH Palma
  • Saturday: Full-day excursion to one of the island's beaches

Accommodation

The school offers accommodation in both host families (single rooms, with half board) and in student apartments in single rooms (or shared rooms for couples), on a self-catering basis.

The accommodation is normally reserved from the Sunday before the course to the Saturday morning after the course ends. However, it is usually possible to stay extra nights for an additional charge.

As Palma is a relatively small city, most accommodation is less than 20 minutes from the school on foot or by public transport.
